When it comes to marijuana, cannabinoids such as THC or CBD are usually the ones that attract the attention of smokers, however, terpenes are also important components that can influence the cannabis experience.
Basically, terpenes are those compounds responsible for giving marijuana plants their characteristic fragrance and flavor. There are hundreds of terpenes in cannabis, here we present some of the most common ones.
1- Myrcene
Myrcene is one of the most common terpenes in marijuana. This terpene has a musky, spicy smell, similar to cloves. In addition to cannabis, you can find myrcene in lemongrass, mango and thyme.
2- Bisabolol
The blsabolol is a terpene that you can find in some varieties of marijuana and in chamomile. This terpene is in charge of producing that sweet and floral aroma you love from your weed.
3- Pinene
Present in plants like rosemary, pinene is responsible for giving that distinctive woody aroma. There are several cannabis strains with these characteristics, among them, the different Skunk varieties.
4- Limonene
Limonene emits a pleasant lemony fragrance. In addition to cannabis, it is also found in citrus peel. It is believed that this terpene has relaxing and antibacterial properties.
5- Linalool
Linalool provides a distinctly floral aroma. This terpene is known for its sedative qualities. Studies have also shown linalool to be a potential anticonvulsant.
