As you know, there are many varieties of cannabis, which have characteristics that make them unique. Some resemble or differ from each other in taste, smell and effect.
Similarly, the color of the plants can be a distinguishing element. This time we will explain why marijuana has different colors.
Cannabis is usually associated with the color green. The truth is that many of the strains have this shade, but there are others like Critical Kush or Grape Ape that may be the exception. In this sense, the reasons for a cannabis plant to have a specific shade can be diverse:
1) Pistil
The sexual organ of the plant is one of the key elements for the color of cannabis. Each female plant contains tiny hairs that cover the buds, which act as pollen traps.
During the vegetative period, they remain white until finally, when the flowering stage is reached, the pistils can turn dark orange or even fire red, depending on the variety.
2) Phytochemicals
These are biological compounds present in the plants, which are responsible for the different shades of marijuana. Some of their types include anthocyanin, chlorophyll, carotenoids and flavonoids, each of which may offer a particular shade, depending on certain factors.
3) Genetics
The plant’s genetics is also an important factor that will determine its color characteristics, as some varieties produce and sample secondary pigments, while others do not, thus developing certain color ranges.
4) Environmental factors
The environment in which marijuana is grown plays a major role in giving it a particular shade. Therefore, factors such as lighting, the different temperatures which cannabis is exposed and the pH and nutrient levels in the plant influence its coloring.
Clarification
Cannabis, whether it has intense colors or not, this factor does not determine the potency of the plant. It is the amount of cannabinoids presents, which are responsible for the various effects of a strain.
