Every 4th of July, the United States celebrates its independence, and as usual, Americans celebrate this date with great enthusiasm. Barbecues, parades, picnics, fireworks, and thousands of waving flags are not lacking this day, but weed will also be present.
Yes, it is according to new data from Akerna Corp, a regulatory compliance technology company that tracks global cannabis sales, predicts that legal cannabis sales will skyrocket over the July 4 holiday weekend.
The data provided predicts that record $206 million legal marijuana sales will be set. Akerna estimates nearly $91 million in retail sales for Friday, July 2 alone, which 60% higher than an average Friday.
Year over year, we’ve seen a 23% increase in the number of products consumers and patients will buy for the July 4th holiday weekend, said James Ahrendt, business intelligence architect at Akerna.
“Given that the holiday falls on a Sunday this year, dispensaries should evaluate staffing and prepare inventory in advance of the weekend to ensure they are ready to accommodate these increases in both traffic and sales,” he also noted.
Data provided by the company also predicts another $72 million in cannabis sales for Saturday, July 3, and an additional $43 million for Sunday, July 4.
Akerna also projects that marijuana users will spend approximately $100 in total on cannabis products, including flowers, cartridges and oils, and edibles.
