Lighting is an indispensable requirement or factor for cannabis growing, therefore, as an indoor cannabis grower, you must ensure that it is not lacking.
You can choose from a wide variety of lights, such as LED, CFL, MH, or HPS. Well, precisely about the latter we are going to tell you about in this article.
HPS (high-pressure sodium) lights are a variety of bulbs that fall into the family of high-intensity discharge or HID lamps.
These types of bulbs are generally inexpensive and easy to operate. Some claim that strains grown under these lights will have larger and more compact buds.
The main disadvantage of HPS lamps is that they emit a lot of heat, so it is necessary to have a good ventilation system and their lifespan is usually short, compared to other lights.
In the market you can find these bulbs with different types of power, there are 150, 250, 400, and 1,000 watts.
When to use HPS lights?
During each stage of cannabis growing a specific type of lighting is usually used, therefore, in the case of HPS lamps, they usually emit a “warmer” reddish spectrum of light, therefore, they are recommended to use for the flowering phase.
Some growers claim that the 250 and 400 W models are suitable for the whole cycle (growth and flowering) in case you cannot use CFL or MH lighting during the vegetative phase.
