What is a ballast?

Ballasts have become an essential part in indoor marijuana growing; this device regulates the current, keeps stable and limits the electrical intensity of the lamps used in the space destined for indoor plantations.

More specifically, ballasts are usually used with either HID (high-pressure discharge) lighting systems, with high-pressure sodium (HPS) or metal halide (MH) lamps, which should not be connected directly to the socket. In addition, the LEC lights need a specific ballast.

The ballast supplies power to the lamp by means of voltage regulation, preventing the HID lights from receiving too much current at once.
