Are you one of those who is impatient for your “Juanita” plant to grow up or don’t you know how long it takes? Or what is the flowering time? Read the following information and you will know how your daughter grows? Or your best friend?
Let’s start by explaining the phases of her development:
- Germination: This is the period when the seed develops into a seedling. The techniques for germination are of different kinds. The most used and recommended is the one that uses a napkin or wet paper as a base to the seed; however, there are not few who do it with other less recommended methods: on wet cotton, directly in soil or jiffy disc or in water.
The time it takes for the seedling to sprout is usually around 24-72 hours, although up to 5 or even 10-15 days. However, you must take into account the water and humidity conditions, oxygenation and, above all that the temperature during this phase is between 21-24 º C.
- Growth: Also called “vegetative phase”. It is the central phase in the development of our plant. After getting our seedling and proceed to its transplant (either to jiffy or to a pot), the growth phase will start. Our friend will try to get her majority growth and will acquire the morphology and size necessary to try in her development the next stage, the flowering.
In general, 18 hours of light and 6 hours of darkness are recommended. A correct balance between light and dark will be key to its perfect development. Not only the light will be important (by the photosynthesis) but also those hours of absolute darkness will be fundamental, since it is when the exchange of gases essential for the metabolism of the vegetal cells takes place.
This period will last more or less, depending on the type of seed, the variety and/or the type of culture. In this way, autoflowering will be faster than feminized and at the same time, indoor growing will generally be faster than outdoor growing. In the same way, using a light source of greater power will ensure faster growth than with less powerful bulbs.
Generally, for indoor growth, we will be talking about 3 or 4 weeks (21 to 25 days) for autoflowering and about 6 or 8 weeks onwards for females.
- Flowering: It is the last phase in the development of the plant and, at the same time, the most important one.
In the autoflowering varieties, the plants themselves will mark the beginning of the phase. When it comes to feminized seeds, or regular, it’s up to you. Ideally, you should start flowering by establishing 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness.
- End of flowering and harvest: In relation to the development of the buds, they should fatten up to cover most of the pistils.
Then you must observe the proper maturation and oxidation of the buds, which will be determined by the shape of the pistils and trichomes, what is the ideal color? It should be orange or brown.
You should also touch the hardness of the buds, because it is an indication to cut. Keep in mind that there are varieties that produce softer buds and in this case, the above signal does not work.
To conclude, we can say that for the correct development of an auto-flowering marijuana plant, we should wait approximately 2 to 3 months; while for a feminized plant, the period is extended to 4 or 5 months.
Now you are ready to take better care of “Juanita” and see her growth, do you consider her: your daughter? or your best friend?
