Since Illinois began legally selling recreational marijuana last year, the state has not missed out on millions in revenue. So far in 2021, it has already officially surpassed $1 billion in adult-use cannabis sales.
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) reported $123,375,372 in recreational cannabis purchases in October, bringing the total to $1.12 billion in 2021.
According to the report, adults purchased 2,757,354 marijuana products last month, with the majority of sales ($81,212,423) coming from in-state residents and the remainder ($42,162,949) from out-of-state visitors.
It should be noted that the reported figures do not include medical cannabis sales, which are tracked separately by a different agency.
Counting October’s record, this would be the eighth consecutive month that recreational marijuana sales in the state exceeded $100 million.
The $123 million revenue achieved last month does not beat the Illinois sales record of $127,794,220, achieved in July. However, October was the second-largest sales month since the recreational marijuana market was launched in January 2020.
