When you run out of marijuana buds to smoke you have probably at some point thought about using the leftover cannabis stems but is it really a good idea to smoke them?
Generally, stoners want to take advantage of every part of their weed, but when it comes to smoking marijuana stems, you need to know that if you do, it will be a less than pleasant experience.
Smoking marijuana stems will give you an unpleasant, woody taste. Also, according to Healthline, it can cause side effects such as headaches, sore throats and coughing fits.
Also, cannabis stems are not the same as buds, as buds contain low amounts of THC, so they won’t get you high.
Should you get rid of the stems?
The fact that smoking marijuana stems is not recommended does not mean that you should get rid of them, on the contrary, you can use them in other ways.
Many people incorporate marijuana stems to prepare teas, tinctures, topicals and even to make stem butter. Even if the stems don’t get you high, they could provide therapeutic and relaxing effects.
According to El Planteo, there is anecdotal evidence that cannabis stem teas treat nausea, anxiety, chronic pain, among others.
Before you start using the stems of your weed, it is very important to decarboxylate them to activate the small amount of THC and other cannabinoids they contain.
To decarboxylate the stems it is recommended to spread them well on a baking sheet, and bake them at 110°C for about 60 minutes. Once the process is finished you can use them.
